Joanna Ling
Joanna graduated from Canterbury University with a double degree in law and commerce majoring in accounting and information systems.
Joanna specialises in complex subdivision and property matters, commercial leasing, franchise and all aspects of personal and trust law. Due to her significant experience and expertise Joanna is uniquely placed to work alongside you in all of the most complex and high level property and commercial matters.
Joanna can communicate in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and can understand a little Foochow.

Senior Consultant
Jane Watson
Jane graduated with a law degree from the University of Canterbury and has over 35 years experience in a wide range of complex legal matters.
Having spent several years as partner of a Christchurch law firm, Jane brought her skills, expertise and loyal clients to J & Co Legal when she joined the team.
Jane has an incredibly diverse wide ranging expertise in trusts and estates and all manner of residential property matters. She also works closely with clients on personal and commercial law matters as well as asset planning.

Registered Legal Executive
Tania Cochrane
Tania works with Joanna and has developed an extensive practice of her own since qualifying in 2006. Tania advises clients in all aspects of residential property transactions including purchases of existing properties, house and land packages, sale of properties and refinances.
Having worked with many first home buyers, Tania is known to be very patient, efficient and ensures her clients fully understand the process.

Registered Legal Executive
Barbara Pounsford
Barbara began her legal career in 2003, qualifying as top graduate of the Canterbury Region in 2007.
Barbara’s main areas of practice are residential property transactions, refinancing and Wills and she enjoys helping first home buyers navigate the process of buying their first home step by step. However, Barbara also has a wide range of experience from her years spent in large corporate firms and assists Joanna with commercial leases, business sales and purchases, trust formation and administration, powers of attorney and estates.

Legal Executive
Stacey Taylor
Stacey is a qualified Legal Executive with over a decade of experience in the legal field. She gained her qualification in 2013 and began practicing as a Legal Executive in 2015. With a strong focus on residential property law, Stacey provides expert guidance and support to clients throughout various stages of property transactions.
Her areas of expertise include residential property purchases, sales, refinancing, and assisting first-time homebuyers through the often-complex process of acquiring their first home. Stacey is also experienced in handling property subdivisions and has worked on several projects in Christchurch.
Known for her clear communication and attention to detail, Stacey is committed to ensuring that each client receives tailored, efficient, and professional service every step of the way.

Trust Accounts Administrator & Office Manager
Sophie Mann
Sophie is our trust accounts administrator and our office manager. She also offers legal secretarial support to our solicitors in drafting powers of attorney wills and other deeds and documents.
Sophie's approachable nature and transparent communication style make her the go-to person for the team. Her honest and caring approach is a true asset to our team, and we are fortunate to have her as a central part of our firm.

Legal Secretary
Christine McMurran
Christine has over 20 years’ experience working in legal practices in Dunedin, Wellington, and Christchurch.
She assists with the preparation of Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney and provides valuable support on residential property sale and purchase transactions.
Christine is an integral part of the team, helping with a wide range of client matters and legal documentation.
She enjoys building positive relationships with clients and takes pride in providing friendly, efficient support to help make legal processes as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Law Clerk
Celine Hu
Celine is currently in her penultimate year of her LLB at the University of Canterbury. She has been a valued member of our team since November 2024, and again from January 2026 to the present.
Celine prepares Enduring Power of Attorney (EPOAs), Sale & Purchase Agreements, and Wills, and helps our solicitors by amending drafted agreements and handling various administration tasks. She communicates directly with solicitors from other parties to exchange documents and information, and is able to translate legal documents into Chinese for our Mandarin-speaking clients.
Originally from Malaysia, Celine moved to New Zealand in 2023 and has quickly adapted to our diverse workplace. She speaks English, Mandarin, Malay, and Foo Chow.
